Last week, we looked at the idiom "in touch" and several of its uses.
Today we will look at "out of touch," the counterpart idiom to "in touch."
Firstly, to be "out of touch" means to not be in contact with someone, which is the opposite of the meaning we covered with "in touch" before.
So, for example:
"I'm out of touch with most of my junior high school friends. I don't even have their phone numbers or e-mail addresses now."
"Out of touch" also has another very common meaning: to be unaware or ignorant of something. Some examples:
"I'm totally out of touch with new music." Here, the speaker doesn't listen to, and doesn't know anything about new music.
-OR-
"The governor is completely out of touch with regular middle class people." In this case, the governor is unaware of what is happening in the real lives of most people.
