Idioms: "in touch" (2016.04.07)

The idiom "in touch" is used in a few different ways, but it usually has the meaning of contacting people or maintaining contact. It is most commonly used with the verbs "be," "get," "keep," and "stay."

Examples:

Jane: "Okay, Dan, I'll get in touch with you this weekend." This means Jane will contact Dan, probably by phone, text, or e-mail.

Luke: "It was nice meeting you, let's keep in touch!" Here, Luke is suggesting that he and the person he just met should maintain contact in the future.

Alma: "I haven't seen Serena since high school, but we have stayed in touch since then." In this case, even though Alma and Serena haven't met in person in a long time, they have continued to contact each other.
