Idioms: "hang out"
"Hanging out" basically means spending time someplace. Usually it's used with the nuance of not doing anything special.
For example, in a telephone conversation:
Yoko: Hey John, what are you doing?
John: Nothing special, I'm just
hangging out at home, listening to music.
It's often used when people talk about spending time someplace without saying exactly what they're doing:
Vincent: Did you go anyplace last weekend?
Jules: Well, on Saturday I saw a movie, and then
hung out for a while in Minato Mirai after that.
