The expression "pick up" has a lot of different meanings, but one of the more common is to buy something (or things), usually quickly.
So, for example, in this phone conversation about a dinner party:
Natasha: What time will you get here?
Tony: In about 30 minutes. I just left home.
Natasha: Oh, okay. Could you pick up a bottle of wine on your way over?
Tony: Sure! Red or white?
In this case, Natasha is asking Tony to make a quick stop by the store to buy some wine.
