The saying "you get what you pay for" is used to express the idea that the value of something usually matches its cost. Often, this is used when things that we buy for cheap prices are also low quality.
For example:
Maria: "My bicycle broke just five months after I bought it. But I only paid 8,000 yen for it, so I guess you get what you pay for."
Here, Maria is saying that she shoudln't expect high quality if she's going to pay such a low price.
