TOP > ワードアップ英会話 WORD UP ENGLISH CLASS 日記 > Vocabulary: "muggy" and "stuffy"
The word "muggy" is used to describe weather that is both hot and humid.
For example:
"The weather in Yokohama in the summertime is really muggy!"
"Stuffy" is usually used when the air in a room is not fresh, or it is hot or difficult to breathe because no air from the outside is flowing through.
For example:
"Could you open the windows, please? It's really stuffy in here!"
Sometime muggy weather or a stufffy room might feel kind of similar, but "muggy" is usually used for the weather conditions outside, while "stuffy" usually describes the air inside, so try not to get them confused!
